Grace

September, 30, 2008

Grace’s mom won the gift certificate at the Paws-n-Spas silent auction which benefitted Animal Haven Rescue.  It turns out that Grace, a 6 year old chow/retriever mix, was adopted from Animal Haven Rescue!  She was very camera shy when I first met her.  I could tell she was thinking, “Who are you, and why are you in my yard?  What is that big black thing you keep pointing at me?”  Once she warmed up to me, I could tell Grace has such a sweet personality.  I really enjoyed meeting this pretty girl.

The hair on her ears gets long and needs to be trimmed every now and then.  Aren’t they cute!?

Kona

September, 29, 2008

I had a fun shoot with 2 dogs on Saturday, Kona and Grace.  I decided to post their photos on 2 different days since I’m not quite finished editing all of them yet.  So today you will see Kona, then tomorrow you will see Grace.

Kona is a 2 year old boxer mix adopted from Fayetteville Animal Shelter.  He is a laid back guy, and we immediately became friends.  He was wonderful to photograph because he never lost interest in me or the camera.  I swear he would look straight into the lens and tilt his head to one side almost like he knew exactly what we were doing!  I could tell Kona is a very happy dog and his humans love him a lot.  His mom said he was a ham, and she was right!  He seemed to enjoy having his picture made!

I think Kona looks great in black + white.

This is one of my favorites because you can see the family’s last name in the concrete.

The sun was just peeking through the trees, casting some very dramatic light on Kona.

See that black shadow of a dog in the background?  That’s Grace!  I’ll post her photos tomorrow.

Jonah the Anteater

September, 26, 2008

Sometimes I call Jonah an anteater when he does this.  He sniffs the ground and I think he must be sniffing up dirt or eating bugs.  I was curious, so I googled anteater and found out that they are very strange looking and he is really nothing like one.

Thanks for reading this very random and silly post.  I should have some fun new photos to show you next week since I will be photographing 2 dogs, Grace and Kona, tomorrow morning.  Their mom won the gift certificate at the Paws-n-Spas silent auction.   I can’t wait to meet them!  Happy Friday!

A Man and his Chihuahua

September, 24, 2008

This is Neill.  We (my furbabies and I) are marrying him next spring.  I think him and Tina have a thing for eachother.

Two more of Harli…

September, 23, 2008

because she is so pretty.

Harli

September, 22, 2008

Harli is a sweet and timid lab/pit-bull mix who will be 3 years old next month.  We had a really fun shoot on Saturday.  She was a little camera shy at first, but she got over that when I pulled out my bag of treats.  Harli was actually one of the easiest dogs I have ever worked with.  After she got over her fear of the camera, she did anything I wanted her to do.  She would sit or lay exactly where I told her to, and she was very calm the whole time.  I loved how she kept her tongue inside her mouth like such a lady.  That might be because the weather is cooling off, or it could be because she is just a great model!  Here is a sneak peek for her mom.

And a few black + whites…

I love how she has some brindle, but only on the legs.

Paws-n-Spas

September, 19, 2008

Tomorrow is the Paws-n-Spas dog wash at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  All proceeds go to Animal Haven Rescue.  I’ll be donating a photo session to the silent auction.  I hope to meet lots of animal lovers and I can’t wait to see all those doggies getting washed and pampered.  Thanks to Cary at Bigwag Dog Bakery for including me!

Husky Needs a Home

September, 17, 2008

Attention Northwest Arkansas readers!  I wanted to share an email I received from my friend Alain.  Please pass this on to anyone who might be interested.  If only I lived on a big farm with lots of room to run…

Hi folks -

Carmen (a woman I worked with at the Univ) forwarded these pictures to me. This husky came up to her parents’ house in Highfill. He’s emaciated and has a problem with one shoulder (front I believe) but the vet thinks otherwise he’s in good shape. They’ve been feeding him and are trying to get him back to good shape. They had to shave him to get the cockle burs and things off his fur. He’s a gorgeous boy who needs a good home. He also will need to be neutered. The vet thinks he’s about 3-4 years old. He currently weighs about 40 lbs and needs to get up to about 60 lbs.

Carmen says that he minds well, doesn’t snap or get irritated when they’ve touched his bowl / food, etc while he’s eating or anything like that. They think he was, at one point, someone’s pet. He really needs a good home. I am forwarding to all of you to pass on to others whom you know love dogs or would perhaps be willing to take on this little project.  I would love to have him, but I think 2 is enough!  Thanks to everyone, let’s find this precious thing a good home :)   -Alain

A Lazy Sunday

September, 14, 2008

Annalise had a long day today.  She ate, napped, AND sunbathed on the deck.  Then she ate some more.  Right now she is asleep on a blanket on top of the dryer.  What a rough life…

We got a doggie door…

September, 10, 2008

and they LOVE it!  It’s very handy.  The only problem is, Maggie and Jonah keep trying to go through it at the same time!
